COVA Preliminary Review and Application Status Guide
Submitting COVA starts online preliminary review; it does not mean a visa has been approved. Monitor the account, respond accurately to requests and wait for the status that authorizes passport submission.
During preliminary review
The reviewing office checks the form and uploaded materials and may request a correction, explanation or additional evidence. A pending status is not a refusal, but it is also not permission to send the passport unless the office’s instructions say so.
If a correction is requested
- Read the full request and identify every field or file mentioned.
- Correct the underlying inconsistency, not only the visible wording.
- Upload complete, clear images in the requested place.
- Check names, dates, passport number, purpose and category across all related documents.
- Resubmit and continue monitoring the account.
If additional documents are requested
Provide the specific evidence requested and explain genuine unavailability truthfully. The official COVA guide directs applicants to use “Anything else you want to declare” for explanations or additional materials requested during review. Do not upload unrelated documents in bulk.
“Passport to be submitted”
This status means the application can move to the passport-submission stage; it is not a visa approval. Follow the responsible mission’s current instructions and submit the passport, application information page with barcode and any requested originals. Processing time is generally counted from passport submission, not initial online filing.
After passport submission
Continue checking status. An estimated pickup date is not a guarantee. The Embassy FAQ says applicants should wait until the order displays the collection status before pickup. Inspect the issued visa details as soon as the passport is returned.

Reddit timelines can indicate common experiences, but they are not an official rule or service standard. Review time varies with office workload, document quality and individual circumstances.
