Can an Aunt, Uncle or Cousin Invite You for a China Q2 Visa?

Current U.S. guidance describes Q2 for relatives of Chinese citizens or Chinese permanent residents and requires relationship proof, without repeating Q1's enumerated family-member list.

Direct answer: For U.S. applications, the current Q2 row uses the broader term 'relatives' and does not repeat Q1's enumerated family-member definition. An aunt, uncle or cousin may therefore be considered, but the relationship must be documented through a credible chain and acceptance is not guaranteed. Confirm the inviter's Chinese citizenship or permanent residence and the applicant's nationality history before filing.

Q1 and Q2 are worded differently

Q1 covers long-term family reunion and the current U.S. notice specifies which family members fall within that row. Q2 covers short-term visits to Chinese relatives and does not reproduce the same list.

Do not use a Q2 community approval to claim that an extended relative qualifies for Q1. Category, intended stay and post-entry plan remain different.

Build the relationship chain

A cousin relationship may require multiple birth and marriage records connecting the applicant, parents and shared grandparents. Names changed by marriage, romanization or adoption should be explained with supporting records.

The inviter should provide the required identity or permanent-residence document and a complete invitation. If the chain cannot be proved, do not replace missing records with an unsupported family statement.

Check nationality before choosing a visa

A person born abroad to a Chinese parent can have a nationality or travel-document issue depending on the parent's status at birth. That question comes before choosing Q2, even if a relative in China is willing to invite.

eChinaVisa can map the relationship evidence, pre-review the invitation and COVA, and flag nationality questions. The visa authority decides category eligibility and issuance.

Frequently asked questions

Does the U.S. Q2 row list only immediate family?

No. It says relatives and does not repeat the Q1 enumerated list.

Is a cousin's invitation automatically accepted?

No. The relationship, inviter status and full case remain subject to review.

How do I prove a cousin relationship?

Usually through a chain of civil records connecting both sides to common relatives.
