What Are JW201 and JW202 Forms for a China X1 Visa?
Higher-education X1 applicants use the school-issued admission letter and Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW201 or JW202); the records must match COVA.
Which X1 applicants need the form
The current Chinese Embassy in the U.S. requirements list JW201 or JW202 plus a photocopy of the admission letter for foreign higher-education students applying for X1. X1 is for study over 180 days. Separate instructions apply to elementary and secondary students.
Do not substitute an acceptance email, tuition receipt or screenshot when the category checklist calls for the official confirmation form. Ask the school’s international office for the complete, current document.
Consistency review
Compare the romanized name, date of birth, passport number, school name, program, study period and any document number. If the passport changed after issuance or the program dates moved, ask the school whether a corrected or reissued form is required before changing COVA.
Keep full-page scans with all seals, signatures, codes and margins visible. Do not edit the form image or hide an inconsistency; preserve the source document and obtain a correction or explanation.
X1 entry is not the end of the process
X1 supports long-term study entry. After arrival, follow the school’s instructions for accommodation registration, health requirements and the study-type residence permit. Chinese regulations distinguish the entry visa from the residence permit for long-term study.
Before international travel after enrollment, confirm that the residence permit has been issued and is valid for re-entry. Do not assume the initial X1 visa remains the document for later trips.
