China X1 vs. X2 Student Visa: Duration and Documents
X1 is for study exceeding 180 days; X2 is for study of no more than 180 days. The school program and issued admission materials should determine the category.
The documents differ
- X1: admission notice plus the Visa Application for Study in China form, commonly JW201 or JW202, under the current list.
- X2: admission notice issued by a school or other entity in China.
- Use the same school name, program and study dates in COVA as the issued documents.
- X1 involves post-entry residence planning; confirm school registration and local steps before travel.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming another applicant's category, validity or stay will apply to your case.
- Letting names, dates or purpose conflict across COVA and inviter, school or employer documents.
- Uploading cropped screenshots or incomplete pages that hide the issuer or key facts.
