China X2 Visa for Short-Term Study: Document Checklist
X2 is the published category for study in China lasting no more than 180 days. The current general-document list calls for an admission notice issued by a school or other entity in China.
Prepare around the actual course
- Confirm the course start, end, city and host institution before completing COVA.
- Upload a complete admission notice with applicant and institution details visible.
- Explain any difference between the course duration and requested travel dates truthfully.
- Do not use X2 for employment or a program exceeding the published 180-day threshold.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming another applicant's category, validity or stay will apply to your case.
- Letting names, dates or purpose conflict across COVA and inviter, school or employer documents.
- Uploading cropped screenshots or incomplete pages that hide the issuer or key facts.
Does every X2 applicant need JW201 or JW202?
The current U.S. Embassy list identifies the school or entity admission notice for X2, while the study-in-China visa form is listed under X1. Follow any case-specific request.
