China M Visa Business Invitation Letter Checklist

For commercial and trade activity, the current M requirements call for documents issued by a trade partner in China. Annex 2 identifies the information that should appear in the invitation letter.

Official baseline: This guide follows the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. visa categories and document list updated in September 2025. A consular officer may request case-specific materials.

Four consistency checks

Applicant identity: name, gender, birth date and passport number.
Trip purpose: specific commercial activity, arrival and departure dates and places to be visited.
Business relationship and who pays the travel costs.
Inviting party: name, address, telephone, official seal, legal representative signature and date.

Common mistakes to avoid

Assuming another applicant's category, validity or stay will apply to your case.
Letting names, dates or purpose conflict across COVA and inviter, school or employer documents.
Uploading cropped screenshots or incomplete pages that hide the issuer or key facts.

Is an email from a business contact enough?

A casual email may omit Annex 2 fields. Use a document from the China trade partner containing the required invited-person, visit and inviting-party information.

Reddit and other community reports can reveal common confusion, but an individual outcome is not an official rule and does not replace current consular requirements.
