How Long Does a China Work Permit Notification Take?

The work-permit notification is a China-side employer filing completed before the Z visa; its timing is separate from COVA, passport processing and the post-entry permit.

Direct answer: There is no reliable nationwide end-to-end number for every work-permit notification. Timing depends on the local authority, employer qualification, category and whether documents require correction or original verification. Treat the notification, overseas Z visa and post-entry work/residence permits as separate stages.

Stage 1 belongs to the employer

The China-based employer submits the online work-permit file. A recruiter collecting documents is not the same as an authority accepting a complete application, so ask for the official submission or acceptance date.

Missing apostilles, translations, experience evidence, contract inconsistencies or a category question can stop the clock. Community timelines from another city or employer are not transferable promises.

Stage 2 starts after the notice

Once issued, the notification supports the overseas Z application. Current U.S. instructions publish four business days for regular passport processing and three for express after passport submission, but online preliminary review and shipping are outside that figure.

Do not purchase a nonrefundable departure based only on the employer's estimated notification date. The visa authority can request further verification and decide the actual visa.

Stage 3 continues after entry

Entry on Z is followed by the local work permit and work-type residence permit procedures. Accommodation registration, medical evidence and original-document checks may also need scheduling.

Build one timeline with owner, start condition and proof for each stage. eChinaVisa can manage the U.S. visa stage, while the employer remains responsible for the China-side work-permit filings.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Embassy's four-day time include the work-permit notice?

No. It applies to the regular passport stage after submission.

When should I start counting the work-permit notification?

Use the authority's complete-application acceptance date, not the first HR email.

Can eChinaVisa speed up the China-side notice?

No. The employer and competent work authority control that filing.
