China Work Permit Employment Contract: What Must Match?
Before a China work-permit filing, the employment contract should align with the employer, role, location, dates, compensation and evidence used throughout the application.
Create one source-of-truth table
Compare the employer's registered legal name, unified social credit information, work address, job title, duties, start and end dates, salary and signatures across the contract, online form and supporting letters. If an English brand differs from the Chinese legal entity, document the relationship instead of silently switching names.
Passport spelling, degree and experience records should also align with the employee information in the contract. Explain legitimate differences with evidence; never alter a document to force a match.
Contract, notification and visa have different jobs
The contract supports the employer's China-side work-permit filing. After approval, the work-permit notification becomes the key purpose document for the U.S. Z-visa application. The contract does not by itself authorize work or replace the notification.
If the notification is issued with the wrong employer, occupation or location, ask the employer to correct the China-side record before the Z filing rather than hoping the visa office will reinterpret it.
Check amendment and termination clauses
The parties should understand what happens if the start date moves, the job location changes or employment ends. Work-permit and residence records do not automatically update when the parties sign a private amendment, and employer changes require formal handling.
eChinaVisa can compare the Z-visa packet against the issued notification and passport, but the employer remains responsible for the China-side filing and labor-law advice should come from qualified local counsel.
Frequently asked questions
Does the visa office require the full employment contract for every Z application?
The current U.S. category list names the work-permit notification. The China-side work-permit process may require the contract or employment certificate.
Can the contract use a trade name?
The legal sponsoring entity must be clear. Document any relationship between a brand and the registered employer.
What if the start date changes?
Have the employer confirm whether the work-permit filing or notification must be updated before travel.
